Local Grill Woodstock – Now Open in Cape Town!

The award-winning steak/grill house “The Local Grill” has recently opened its first branch in Cape Town, in the trendy Woodstock neighborhood. Since establishing the “local neighborhood, traditional butcher-style eatery” concept twelve years ago, restaurateur, Steven Maresch, has steadily built the brand into a 3-strong chain of restaurants, and one of the most popular destinations for meat-lovers in Johannesburg – where Parktown North is the flag-ship restaurant.

Founder, Maresch, extends his partnership with Llewy Mateza and Popi Tomazos to include Jermaine Craig and Cape Town-based entrepreneur, Andre Viljoen , whose highly stylised, modern industrial-look building at 252 Albert Road, offers the perfect home for The Local Grill’s multi-dimensional dining experience.

Famous for its fine-cuts, The Local Grill menu is unadorned, and based on wholesome, preservative free “field to fork” principle. The grain and grass fed beef is sourced directly from the farm, and the cut to order meat is dry, or wet aged in the display meat locker on the premises.

Structured much like its Johannesburg counterparts, the Woodstock venue will incorporate a concept kitchen; a wine room, private dining area, and Viljoen’s state-of-the-art craft brewery will add a slick layer to the dining experience. The voluminous area will include a Deli and Butcher, a large bar and special events room. Maresch stresses that the restaurant will maintain its distinct dining experience that is also casual enough to welcome family.

Eat Out magazine awarded The Local Grill ‘Best Steakhouse’ in South Africa in 2011. Last year the restaurant garnered the ‘2013 Steakhouse Champion of South Africa’ in the inaugural Wolftrap Steakhouse Championships. Among the 100 contenders the runners-up included Martin Lombard of Little Havana, and Giorgio Nava of Carne SA,

Maresch is in constant development of the brand, and with Tomazos and Mateza they recently launched in Isando, Johannesburg the first of The Local Grill GRAZE outlets. While the venue is café-style in design, Graze is founded on The Local Grill ‘field to fork’ tradition and offers the same menu and quality service, but its lower-cost pricing structure lends itself to franchising opportunity.
